5 Mistakes That Kill Your SEO

Here are 5 reasons why your current SEO strategy isn't working.

#1: You don't use content clusters

The content cluster strategy has become extremely popular in recent years. Aja Frost, Head of Content at Hubspot, worked out a strategy for DigitalMarketer Lab participants, showing how content clusters help Hubspot rank for more keywords.

Search Engine Optimization

Without content clusters, SEO today works poorly. Clusters combine content on a specific topic. For example, this article is part of a content cluster on an SEO topic. There is a main post and a pool of accompanying articles of 1000-3500 words, each of which links to the main post.

The goal is for these posts to engage viewers in our main post, which contains a variety of calls to action (CTAs) within our offering. This strategy helps us rake in traffic for more keywords (because you have more content for each keyword), showing search engines that our site visitors like our articles. When you've read this article in its entirety, head over to our main post and read it in its entirety. Search engines understand when visitors like a website.

This approach helps us grow by keywords and elevates our publications in search.

Try to write the main articles large, detailed and selling. Accompany the main articles with small supporting articles on the same topic with links to the main article. A site's ranking for the right keyword will increase, and you should see your articles creep up to the first page of the SERPs.

#2: You Don't Invest in Your Content

Previously, the optimizer did not have to strain in content marketing. They published low-quality articles and got into the tops. But now the freebie is over. And we love it! Bad content shouldn't rank high because it's useless to users. A bad article doesn't provide answers and forces the reader to look for more. Search engines track this and pessify SEO crap. High bounce rates are the main signal for the search engine.

5 million posts were published every day in the first quarter of 2021. Your SEO is at risk if you're thinking of breaking through with useless blog articles. You'll get what you put in.

Invest in your content so people don't quit reading. Readings tell search engines that other people (with the same search query) would also like to read it.

#3: You use a generalized call to action

It happens that there is traffic, but there are no conversions. The good news is that you're doing a great job of promoting your keywords. You've gone very far, and the rest can be fixed.

Take a closer look at your call to action (CTA):

  • Isn't it too general (not specific) for the question that brought users to this article?
  • Are you offering to buy a product that is not related to the topic of the article?
  • Have you tried different suggestions?

Start testing your calls to action to see what's wrong with them. Focus on the interests of the reader (rather than the personal benefit of the conversion):

#4: You don't see any results yet

Kids and SEO strategy are a great test of patience. As for children, we recommend taking deep breaths. In terms of SEO, we offer weekly measurements and deep breaths. Your SEO may seem like an expensive treat, especially while it's not making a profit, but you have to remember – it's a long-term strategy.

This is not contextual advertising that can be turned on and optimized in a few days. SEO takes time. Search engines need to know what question your content is answering. Google-Yandex needs to study the reaction of many readers. It takes time.

If you don't see results within a few weeks of launching SEO, wait. Let seo strategies work for at least a few months to make sure everything goes according to plan or vice versa.

If after that nothing works, take another look at these 5 reasons and figure out what goes wrong.

#5: You Don't Use Other Platforms to Unpack SEO

When you first run paid ads (like Targeting Facebook), you're prompted to schedule a test period. During those 7 days, it takes about $50 for their algorithm to determine who your audience is. They need to see who:

  • Interacts with your messages
  • Transitions to your profile
  • Roams your website

This tells the platform who is best to show your paid ads. You can represent SEO in a similar way. If you can drive traffic to your articles on your own, you're helping the algorithm determine who is best suited for your search results.

What's more, you also boost your articles in search because people will like your content and searchers will track that moment.

If you have an audience (mailing list, social media groups, whatever!), push your articles to them. This will help your SEO (and in most cases, it can be done for free).

Don't despair

SEO is the hard part of marketing. SEO isn't always completely clear because Google itself doesn't know how websites rank. Since ranking has been entrusted to machine learning, we have to play by their rules. Their number one rule is to give users the best result. You will have to write useful articles.

If your SEO doesn't work, don't give up until you:

  1. Didn't try the content cluster strategy
  2. Not convinced that people definitely need your articles
  3. Not tested different CTAs
  4. Haven't worked in a few months in SEO
  5. Didn't promote your content through other marketing channels

SEO can change your business. Make sure you've done your best before signing off on the fact that SEO isn't working.
